Solid Performances Propel Trojans into Sun Belt Indoor Championship Finals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Shanyah Washington, Lauren Locke, and Kasia Cooper all had a strong day one at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships and will participate in the finals tomorrow, Tuesday, February 21, from the Birmingham Crossplex.
Washington, who has had a strong season in the 60m, capped off the preliminary round with her best performance yet. With a time of 7.45, Washington finished in fourth and set a new personal best and the fastest time by a Trojan in the event this season.
Following Washington to the finals are Lauren Locke and Kasia Cooper. Locke in the women's one-mile event qualified with a time of 5:02.68, and Cooper in the women's 400m had a personal best of 56.50 to compete for a place on the podium tomorrow.
The Women's pentathlon saw a solid performance from Kady Schwietz, who set personal records in all five events. She would finish fifth and total 3522 points, putting her second all-time in the Troy record books.
The Trojans were well represented in the women's weight throw with both Biniosa Ezukuse and Abby Grosinske setting personal best. Ezukuse placed seventh with a mark of 17.85m and Grosinske came in 15th after a 16.36m throw.
The indoor championships finals will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 11:15 a.m. Troy will see Locke run the women's 1 mile at 1:30 p.m., Washington will run in the 60m at 2 p.m.and Cooper will wrap up the day in the 400m at 3 p.m.
