Trojans Complete Comeback to Walk-off in Extras

With one out in the ninth and the Trojans trailing 5-3, freshman Brooks Bryan was put into the game as a pinch hitter. On the third pitch he saw in his first collegiate at-bat, Bryan launched the ball 357 feet over the scoreboard to bring Troy within one. Myers doubled after to put the tying run into scoring position, with defensive replacement Hudson Hartsfield stepping up in his first at-bat of the game and ripping a double to left field to tie the game and send it to extras.
The tie game didn't last long as Evansville was patient and used four walks and a hit by a pitch to regain a two-run advantage in the top of the 10th.
The Trojans never withered and continued to fight as the comeback was started by a Tremayne Cobb Jr. hit by pitch followed by singles from Ben Arnett and Lewis, who picked up his fourth RBI of the game.
Sophomore Parker Sessions would step up to bat in his first game for Troy and, with two strikes, laced a single to left to tie the ballgame. Then, with the speed of Lewis on third, Myers made contact putting the ball in play and giving Troy their second win of the season.
"Lot of guys contributed and took advantage of their opportunity," head coach Skylar Meade said. "It was the epitome of the team win, and I'm happy with our guys and how tough they are and were able to show it today."
Getting the win for Troy (2-0) was Noah Manning (1-0), who came in the top of the 10th with the bases loaded and got out of the jam.
Jakob Meyer (0-1) picks up the loss for Evansville (0-2). The Aces were held to six hits and struck out a total of 14 times.
In his Trojan debut, Zach Fruit went four innings, striking out eight Aces while giving up two earned runs on 88 pitches.
Lewis, for the second straight game, used his bat to come in and help spur The Trojan offense as he hit a game-tying home run traveling 393 feet in the bottom of the fourth.
The tie game wouldn't last long as Evansville used two singles and a well-placed sacrifice bunt down the first base line to take the 4-3 lead.
Keaton Fuller gave the Trojans a solid outing pitching 4.2 innings and striking out four to keep Troy in the ballgame.
The Trojans will go for the series sweep tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 19, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. from Riddle-Pace Field
