Laura Fangmeyer Paces Trojans Through Windy Day One at White Sands Invitational

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The Troy women's golf team battled windy conditions Friday morning at the White Sands Invitational to stand seventh, with Laura Fangmeyer pacing the team tied for fifth.
Fangmeyer excelled through the opening 18 holes at the Ocean Club Golf Course, shooting 1-over 73. The sophomore remained balanced throughout the day, carding two birdies. Against the field, she ranked tied for fourth on par 3s at 1-under, averaging 2.75.
As a unit, the Trojans had the fourth-best par-5 holes, averaging 5.05 across the team. Troy combined for seven birdies and 46 pars to find itself sitting seventh at 310.
Alyssa Mercado and Bruna Roqueta followed Fangmeyer, tied for 16th (76) and 24th (78), respectively. Playing as an individual, Jillian Friyia matched Mercado and Roqueta's two birdies, shooting 82 to tie for 45th.
Brinson Hall sits tied for 28th, one shot from a four-way battle at 24th, while Katelynn Altese, Samantha Straight and Manya Saini sit tied for 50th (83), 55th (84) and 60th (86), respectively.
Round two tees off for the Trojans at 8 a.m.
