Troy Women’s Hoops Hits Road for Sun Belt Trip
1/4/2023 9:52:00 AM | Basketball (W)
TROY, Ala. – Troy hits the road for its first Sun Belt road trip of the year this weekend, beginning with a visit to Arkansas State on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Troy (6-7, 1-1 SBC) will be playing away from home for the ninth time in 14 games on the young season when it puts its 10-game winning streak against Arkansas State (5-8, 0-2) on the line. The Trojans haven't lost to the Red Wolves since February 2016, and Troy has won 12 of its last 13 Sun Belt road games, including five in a row.
As with most Chanda Rigby-coached teams, this year's Trojans are a force on the offensive end of the court. Troy has scored 75-plus points in six straight games, including a 79-point effort in its victory over Texas State this past Saturday. The Bobcats entered the game leading the Sun Belt and ranked 32nd nationally, holding opponents to just 55.8 points per game.
Nia Daniel leads a quartet of Trojans averaging double-figures in scoring at 14.5 points per game, while Tai'Sheka Porchia has dropped 10-plus points in a team-best seven games to sit at 12.5 per game on the year.
Janeen Camp made the most of her first career start in the game against Texas State with her second double-double of the season in addition to three blocks. She leads the Sun Belt and ranks 33rd in the country with 23 blocks on the season despite averaging just 11.1 minutes per contest.
The Red Wolves have dropped five of their last six games, including both their Sun Belt contests last week at ULM and Georgia Southern. Izzy Higginbottom is one of the top scorers in the Sun Belt, averaging 15.8 points per game to lead a trio of Red Wolves in double-figure scoring.
The numbers point to a high-scoring affair Thursday, with both teams ranking in the top four in scoring in the Sun Belt while ranking in the bottom two in points allowed.
Following Thursday's game, Troy travels to Georgia State (7-8, 1-1) on Saturday.
