Â
TROY, Ala. – Back at the top of the Sun Belt Conference standings, Troy returns to Trojan Arena on Saturday to play host to Georgia Southern. Tip-off is on tap for 4 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
It's Letterwinners Day in Trojan Arena as all Troy women's basketball Letterwinners may receive up to four free tickets to the game by contacting Stephen Brown at rsbrown@troy.edu, in addition to an on-court recognition and pregame hospitality. Additionally, the first 500 fans through the doors will receive a free Troy State shersey.
Â
Troy (12-8, 7-2) moved back into a three-way tie with James Madison and Southern Miss for first place in the league following the Trojans' 81-62 win over South Alabama on Thursday night. Ja'Mia Hollings became just the second Trojan in the program's Division I history to top the 20-point and 20-rebound mark in the same game.
Â
The junior forward scored 23 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds in Troy's seventh straight win over its in-state rival. Over her last six games, Hollings is averaging 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing.
Â
The matchup with Georgia Southern (13-5, 5-4) pits two of the nation's top scoring and rebounding teams against each other. The Eagles rank fourth nationally, averaging 85.5 points per game and Troy is ninth at 82.2 points per game, while Troy leads the country with 51.2 rebounds per game, and Georgia Southern is fifth with 46.8 per game.
Â
The story is a little different in conference play, where the Trojans lead the league at 82.4 points per game, almost three points better than the Eagles' 79.6 points per game. Troy has scored 75-plus points in a program-record 13 straight games, while Georgia Southern has hit 80-plus points in six of its last eight games.
Â
Troy has dominated the series, winning 20 of the 23 games, including all 10 in Trojan Arena. Georgia Southern's victory in 2021 snapped a 17-game winning streak by the Trojans in the series dating back to 1978.Â
