Troy Battles Miami in Men’s Tennis Spring Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Troy dropped its spring opener, 4-0, at Miami on Saturday morning, but the final score didn't indicate how close the match was as the Trojans were tied in the second set of all three unfinished matches.

The Hurricanes (1-0) took the doubles point winning on courts one and two, while the Trojans' (0-1) duo of Vito Llinares and Jules Fabre were leading 5-4 on court three when play was halted.

Miami won in straight sets on courts one, three and five in singles play to end the match with a 4-0 victory. However, Carles Anton was tied 3-3 in his second set on court two, Fabre was knotted at 6-6 on court four and Llinares was in a 5-5 deadlock on court six.

Court one saw Troy freshman Mario Martinez Serrano battle the nation's No. 73 player in Dan Martin to a 7-5, 6-3 setback.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Trojans as they will battle Binghamton at Miami's Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Sunday.
