TROY, Ala. – Winners of three straight games, Troy women's basketball returns to Trojan Arena on Thursday and Saturday for a pair of Sun Belt Conference games against ULM and Louisiana. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Thursday's contest will be Thirsty Thursday in Trojan Arena with $2 soft drinks in addition to being Student Appreciation Night. The first 250 Troy University students will receive a free Chick-fil-A sandwich, and the first 500 students will take home a free t-shirt thanks to Troy Student services. Additionally, one lucky student will receive a partial scholarship thanks to the Vance Law Firm.
Saturday marks Troy's annual Teacher Appreciation Night, and all local educators will receive one free general admission ticket. In addition, the first 250 Troy students in attendance will receive a free OneTROY cup and the concession stands will feature a pulled pork sandwich.
The Trojans (8-7, 3-1 SBC) have been near unstoppable during their three-game winning streak winning by an average of 18.3 points, with two of the three games taking place on the road. Troy's success can be traced to its high-powered offense clicking on all cylinders and its defense stepping up.
Troy's streak of 75-plus point games stands at eight straight following its 81-point performance at Georgia State on Saturday. Defensively, the Trojans have held four of their last six opponents to less than 35 percent shooting from the floor. Additionally, in Troy's last four wins, its opponents are scoring just 59.3 points per game.
Four Trojans rank among the top 15 scorers in the Sun Belt heading into the third weekend of conference play; no other team has more than two. Factor in Amber Leggett's 11.0 points per game since her return and five Trojans are averaging in double-figures – Nia Daniel (14.4), Makayia Hallmon (12.8), Tai'Sheka Porchia (12.2) and Ja'Mia Hollings (11.3).
The matchup with ULM (6-9, 2-2) gives Troy another opportunity to extend a winning streak. Troy's win at Arkansas State last Thursday was its 11th straight against the Red Wolves, while Saturday's win at Georgia State was its seventh in a row over the Panthers. A win against the Warhawks on Thursday would mark the Trojans' ninth straight in the series dating back to 2016. Troy has won 10 of the last 11 meetings after ULM rolled off seven straight in the series.
The Warhawks have league victories over Coastal Carolina and Arkansas State after managing just one win over a Division I team during the non-conference portion of the season. Center Emma Merriweather, a Kansas transfer, was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week after averaging 13 points and 12.5 rebounds last week.
