BATON ROUGE, La. – After taking the first two sets against Iowa State on the final day of the Tiger Challenge, the Cyclones came back and took the final three sets to win 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 11-25, 19, 25, 13-15) Saturday afternoon
Led by Julia Brooks and Amiah Butler with 17 kills each, it was not enough to contain the Cyclones (2-4) as Eleanor Hoithaus had a match-high of 25. The 17 kills for Brooks was her highest total of the season to go along with a match-high .457 hitting percentage for Troy (2-4)
Amara Anderson's 42 assists led all players, and Troy had more digs than Iowa State; however, 19 blocks by the Cyclones were the significant difference between these two sides as Troy only recorded five.
Set 1: Troy led from start to finish in set one and would see a lead of six points to pull away. Back-to-Back kills from Brooks toward the end of the set would seal the first set victory of the weekend for the Trojans.
Set 2: The Trojans once again dominated the set, seeing only one tie score coming at 1-1. Troy capitalized on five service errors. It got interesting towards the end of the set as Iowa State saved off three straight set points to get within two before Butler ended things with a kill, giving Troy a two-set lead.
Set 3: The third set was all Iowa State. Troy had their lowest attack percentage while only recording six kills. The Cyclones established a lead and never looked back, giving Troy their lowest number of points in a set this season.
Set 4: The Two teams traded points back and forth much of the set. Troy was only down one point at 15-16. But after a service ace from the Cyclones put them up four, Troy couldn't stage a comeback, and the match was tied and going into the fifth and final set.
Set 5: After being down as many as three points in the set, Brooks got a kill to give Troy a lead at 12-11 and 13-12. The Cyclones closed the match with three straight points in the fifth set to give them the victory and hand Troy its third consecutive loss.
Up Next: Troy will wrap up the three-week road trip with a trip to Birmingham for the Blazer Invitational, where they will square off with North Florida, Auburn, and UAB beginning on September 9.
