TROY, Ala. – Former Troy men's basketball forward Nick Stampley signed to play professionally for the Uusikaupunki Korihait in Finland's top-tier association, the Korisliiga league.
"I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that Nick has signed with Korihait in Finland," head coach Scott Cross said. "Nobody is more deserving than Nick Stampley. He has been one of the hardest workers that I have ever coached, and everyone that has watched him play knows that he is one of the toughest ever to put on a Troy uniform."
The Florida native spent the past three seasons with Troy, averaging seven points and 4.9 rebounds on 41.7 percent shooting from the field. Stampley exploded on the scene in 2020-21 when he led the team in scoring with 12.6 points on a 44.1/30.4/67.8 shooting split. That season, Stampley scored his career-high of 24 against Coastal Carolina and started all 27 games. In three seasons, the 2021-22 Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team member played 89 games for 1,972 minutes while starting in 60 games.
Uusikaupunki is located on the southeast coast of Finland in the Gulf of Bothnia. The Korihait were founded in 1898, winning five titles in 1986, 1988, 1990, 2003 and 2016.
Stampley becomes the 21st player to play professional basketball under Cross and the first Trojan to sign a professional contract since Wesley Person Jr. in 2020.
"Nick laid it all on the line every single game for his entire career here at Troy and is a huge reason we were able to turn the corner this past year," Cross said. "I look forward to watching him continue to grow & develop, and I am confident that he will help Korihait win a championship in the very near future."
