TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball program closed out its 2022 recruiting class with the addition of Jackson Fields out of Lawrence E. Elkins High School, head coach Scott Cross announced Saturday afternoon.
"We finished our 2022 recruiting class with a bang by signing 6-8 Jackson Fields out of Lawrence E. Elkins High School," Cross said. "Jackson has been very well coached by Coach Albert Thomas at Elkins High School. And his AAU coach, Coach John Eurey, is one of the best in the business and has sent hundreds of players to college over the past 20-plus years."
Fields comes to Troy from Missouri City, Texas, where he was named All-District Defensive Player of the Year. The high school senior dominated the boards, averaging double-digit rebounds (10). He also averaged 1.1 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
The Lawrence E. Elkins graduate can stretch the floor with the 3-point shot as the forward averaged 10 points per game on 51 percent shooting from the field and 24 percent from behind the arc.
"Jackson is a long, athletic rebounder and shot-blocker that can stretch the floor with his outside shooting, but he can also be a lob threat on the pick and roll," Cross explained. "He is a great defender that is very versatile. Jackson is an amazing help side-shot blocker, but he also has the ability to guard every position on the floor. He will help make the Troy Trojans the best defensive team in the Sun Belt Conference."
Before committing to basketball, Fields was also a star tight end for the Knights of Elkins, receiving offers from Nevada, Air Force and UTSA.
The 6-8 forward joins Randi Ovalle and Andre Young as signees from the Class of 2022.
