Troy Fourth, Two Trojans in Top Five at SBC Women’s Golf Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Troy shot a 10-over 298 in Sunday's opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship to sit in fourth place, just four shots off the pace. ShaeLee Scarberry is tied for third, and Alyssa Mercado is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard at the LPGA International Hills Course.

Scarberry shot even par on the day with three birdies to go along with three bogeys on the par-72, 6,283-yard course. The Troy junior made the turn at 1-under after birdies at No. 12 and No. 18 before her card reached 2-under, thanks to a four on the par-5 second. Scarberry is three shots back of Georgia Southern's Mia Kness for the individual lead.

Mercardo is a shot back of her teammate after a 1-over 73 in a round that featured a trio of birdies, a bogey and one double-bogey. All three of Mercado's birdies came on par-4 holes, and she finished even on the par 4s on the day.

Troy is tied with Georgia Southern for the lead with 10 birdies across all five of their golfers' rounds on Sunday. The Eagles sit at the top of the overall leaderboard with a three-shot lead over UT Arlington and Arkansas State, while Troy is four shots back of the Eagles in fourth. Top-seeded Coastal Carolina is nine shots off the pace in a tie for sixth.

Bruna Roqueta, who is in the lineup for the first time since March 7, carded three birdies in her round of 75 and is tied for 14^th overall, while Elizabeth Caldarelli and Anna Claire Little are tied for 39^th place at 6-over.

Troy will be in the first group on the first tee box at 7 a.m. for Monday's second round, along with App State and ULM.
