Troy Falls to Top-Seeded Georgia State in SBC Men’s Tennis Semis

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Troy's upset bid over top-seeded Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament semifinals came up short as the Trojans saw their season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to the Panthers Friday morning at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

Georgia State (16-7), ranked 63^rd nationally, took the doubles point and won on courts one, three and four in singles to move to Saturday's championship match.

Troy's (16-10) doubles tandem of Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin sent the team doubles point to a clinching third match with a dominant 6-2 win over Georgia State's combo of Roberts Grinvalds and Andrei Duarte, who entered the week ranked 85th nationally. However, the Panthers took a 6-4 victory on court two to clinch the team point.

All-Sun Belt Singles selection Carles Anton claimed Troy's only point of the match, defeating Grinvalds, 6-4, 6-2, on court two. The Trojan sophomore finished the year 20-5 during dual matches to push his career mark to 50-9 in singles.

The berth in the semifinals marked Troy's second straight trip to the final four in the Sun Belt Tournament; the Trojans return four of their six players from their singles and doubles lineups for next season.
