TROY, Ala. --Â Troy men's basketball brings in their first transfer of the 2022 offseason in Aamer Muhammad from Lubbock Christian, head coach Scott Cross announced Friday morning.
Â
"Aamer is a scoring guard that can play multiple positions for us," Scott Cross said. "He was an extremely efficient scorer for a Lubbock Christian team that went 27-4 in one of the best D-II leagues in America. He shot extremely efficiently on all levels of the ball, ranging from free throws to beyond the arc."
Â
A 6-1Â guard from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Muhammad comes off an extremely efficient season on the offensive end. Muhammad was third on the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game while dishing off the second-most assists at 2.7. While scoring 15.4, Muhammad shot the ball at 49.5 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from three and 81.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Â
Earning Lone Star State All-Conference second team this past season, Muhammad scored 20 or more points in eight games, including two with 30-plus this season - only six games in single figures. The junior transfer's career-high 31 points came on December 11, 2021, against Western New Mexico on 11-of-16 from the field, including six 3-pointers.
Â
"Aamer is also an excellent defender as he can really heat up opposing team ball handlers and has great anticipation playing in the passing lanes," Cross added. "Aamer definitely fits our culture as he comes from a winning program and is our kind of guy."
Â
The New Mexico native was a defensive leader for the Chaps, sitting atop the team in steals with 1.4 per game. Muhammad swiped away two or more steals in nine games for the Lone Star Conference team, producing a career-high five steals against St. Edwards on January 20.
Â
Muhammad's breakout season was two years in the making as the Cleveland High School graduate earned LSC All-Freshman Team on seven points per game off 39.9 percent from the field in the 2019-20 season.
