Errors Plague Trojans in Loss to Kennesaw State

TROY, Ala. – A season-high four errors proved to be the difference as Troy fell 9-4 Saturday afternoon from Riddle-Pace Field. Seven of the nine Owl runs scored on Saturday were unearned.
The top of the fourth was where Kennesaw State (8-2) did their damage. Three Troy errors in the inning alone turned into six of the seven unearned runs for the Owls. It was 8-0 after four, Troy turned to the bullpen the rest of the way.
Brady Fuller (1-1), who started the game for Troy, only lasted 3.2 innings allowing eight hits, two walks, and three strikeouts to pick up his first loss of the season. Only one of his six runs was earned.
It was another slow day for the Trojans (6-5) offense as Kennesaw Stat starter Joe Bezdicek was able to send down the first nine Trojan batters down in order until William Sullivan had a patient at-bat and was rewarded with a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth inning.
Hudson Hartsfield made his first start of the season and would record the Trojan's first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Troy failed to do anything with it.
Bezdicek (3-0) finished his outing after six innings, only allowing one hit, with three walks, seven strikeouts, and no runs.
The Trojans didn't go quietly into the night as they put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh after back-to-back walks to begin the inning brought Rigsby Mosley to the plate, who doubled for the second straight game bringing in the Trojan's first run.
The Troy bats woke up after that as Jesse Hall followed Mosley with a single to bring in his fourth run of the series and make it 4-2. Then, Donovan Whibbs hit the ball hard and deep enough at the left fielder for a sacrifice fly and the Trojan's third run.
Catcher Clay Stearns kept the inning going with two outs with a sharp single that the Owl shortstop couldn't control to cut the Kennesaw lead in half. However, that was all Troy would manage as Kennesaw State added an insurance run in the top of the eighth to make it 9-4.
The Trojan bullpen continued to see work as Logan Ross, Noah Janney, Ryan Pettys, Judson Hershiser, and Keaton Fuller all appeared and saw action. Keaton Fuller continues his impressive Freshman year as he went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and now has an earned run average of 1.29 with nine total strikeouts on the season.
Up Next: The series with Kennesaw State wraps up Sunday, March 6, at 1 p.m., as Bay Witcher gets the start.
