TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team extended its win streak to four matches with a 5-2 victory over UAB on Thursday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The streak is the second of the season for the Trojans, who rolled off five straight wins earlier this spring.
Troy (12-6) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point for the third straight match; this comes after the Trojans had surrendered the doubles point in five straight matches. Vito Llinares and Noah Martens finished first with a 6-4 victory on court two, while Carles Anton and Pelayo Antuna continued their dominance with a 6-4 win on court three as they moved to 12-3 on the year.
Llinares gave Troy a 2-0 lead after making quick work on court six, yielding just one game in the straight sets win as he improved to 13-4 on the year in singles. Anton also breezed through his singles match, winning 6-1, 6-3 on court two to run his dual match record to 14-4 this spring.
Nicolas Simkin put the win in the column for the homestanding Trojans with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory on court three, and Manuel Bernard earned up Troy's fifth point of the match with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win on court five.
UAB (6-8) picked up wins on court one and court five, both of which came in three sets.
Troy is off for the next week before traveling to Georgia for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches; the Trojans open league play at Georgia State on Saturday, March 19, and follow at Georgia Southern on Sunday, March 20.
