Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season Monday & Tuesday

TROY, Ala. – Following a three-month break, the Troy women's golf team returns to the links this week with 54 holes on tap at the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic on Monday and Tuesday. The 15-team field will descend on the 5,971-yard Bay Point Golf Club, Nicklaus Course, in Panama City Beach for the spring opener.
"Our offseason work has gone pretty well, but I've been disappointed because the weather has been so poor," head coach Randy Keck said. "We haven't been able to get outside much to practice and play some rounds, but that's been the case for most teams around the country. So, we're not tuned up as well as I'd like because of it, but we'll just have to play our way into shape."
Troy is coming off an up-and-down fall which saw the Trojans finish third at the Hoover Invite early on before stumbling slightly in their final event of the year. However, Troy enters the spring opener with a bout of confidence due to their performance in the event last season.
"We played really well here last year," Keck said. "We had a chance to win before rain canceled the final round. We have a lot of girls in the lineup this week that played last year, and this is a course that we are really comfortable on and it gives us some confidence to have a course where we've played well in the past."
Last year, the Trojans finished second at the event, just two shots behind perennial NCAA Tournament qualifier Campbell. Troy was five shots better than the Camels in the second round and had the momentum before Mother Nature had other plans.
Anna Claire Little and Elisabeth Preus tied for third in last year's tournament and are back in Keck's lineup this week. Preus finished the fall second on the team with a 2.73 score vs. par, while Little had a top-25 finish among her five tournaments and is tied for second with 86.7 percent of her rounds counting towards the team score.
ShaeLee Scarberry led Troy in the fall with five rounds under par and a 1.27 score vs. par, while Elizabeth Caldarelli tied for ninth last year in the event and shot a 4.33 vs. par in the fall. Bruna Roqueta will make her debut in the tournament after posting a 4.25 score vs. par in the fall and Brinson Hall will play as an individual.
