TROY, Ala. – The Trojan outfield will be the final position group we preview before the first pitch tomorrow, with plenty of names to be on the lookout for this season.
"We have a talented collection of experienced players, with the likes of Rigsby Mosley and Trey Leonard," head coach Skylar Meade said. "But we also have some young up and comers like Seth Johnson and Colin Summerhill. In addition, some highly athletic guys are also all in the mix to play and provide different skill sets to our team with players like Brandon Schrepf, Hudson Hartsfield, and Kyle Mock. This group has adjusted to the unique setup here at Riddle-Pace Field, and most of the guys in this group throw the ball well enough to make some plays during the season."
Leading the group is Rigsby Mosley, who is wearing the cardinal and white in his fifth season. Mosley was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team for the fourth consecutive year.
The Maitland, Fla. native started and played in all of the Trojan's 53 games last season. He held a .279 batting average with 58 hits which ranked third on the team, 17 doubles which ranked first in the conference, one triple, and a home run to finish with 23 RBIs. With 228 hits in his career, Mosley sits in fifth on the Trojan all-time list and ranks in the top 10 in at-bats, doubles, triples, total bases, and sacrifice flies.
Along with Mosley, Seth Johnson, Kyle Mock, and Hudson Hartsfield return to Troy eager to continue contributing once again. Johnson appeared in 11 games last year, starting in five of them and recording six hits and two RBIs.
Mock appeared in 23 games, making 16 starts. He totaled 15 hits with three doubles and a triple, driving in seven runs. He started the 2021 season on a seven-game hitting streak.
This year, plenty of newcomers join the Trojan outfield as Trey Leonard transfers in from Louisville, Cameron Grey from Chipola CC, and Brandon Schrepf from Pensacola State.
The lone freshman of the group is Michael Furry, who comes from Lake Highland High School in Orlando, Fla. He finished with a .469 batting average and holds the school records for batting average, doubles, and triples.
Trojans will begin their season tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m., when they welcome Holy Cross to Riddle Pace Field.
