TROY, Ala. – One of the top prep golfers in the country, Samantha Straight, has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Troy program beginning in the fall of 2022, head coach Randy Keck announced Tuesday. Straight currently ranks among the top 175 players nationally in the class of 2022 and finished 13th at the Texas 6A State Championship last spring.
"Samantha is one of the longest hitters in all of high school golf across the country, including hitting a drive in a long drive contest in New Orleans over 310 yards," Keck said. "As a freshman, she will be one of the longest hitters in all of college golf. Samantha will be able to do some things with the golf ball not many kids can do at our level. Almost every par five will be reachable, and she will be hitting a lot of short golf clubs into some longer par fours, which is a huge advantage. The potential for Samantha to be one of the best players in all of college golf is very high. She is an amazing addition to an already outstanding recruiting class."
Straight helped lead Hebron High School to the Texas 2021 6A state title with her 13th place individual finish. Additionally, Hebron finished seventh at the High School National Invitational, held at Pinehurst Resort that summer.
She reached the finals at the Drive, Chip and Putt Finals held at Augusta National in April 2021 as she finished third overall in the Girls 14-15 division and first in putting. In addition, Straight won The Lakes at Castle Hills Junior Championship this past summer and the Notah Begay III Dallas/Ft. Worth Regional Qualifier.
