TROY, Ala. -Â Skylar Meade and the boys of Troy look to build off an impressive 2022 campaign as 2023 brings in a new and improved Riddle-Pace Field and another year of exciting Trojan baseball as Meade announced the 2023 schedule Friday. Season tickets are available for purchase by visiting TroyTrojans.com/tickets.
"This year's schedule is going to be very challenging as we enter a new frontier in Sun Belt baseball," Meade said. "The non-conference will feature very tough out-of-conference opponents to start the season culminating in challenging road series throughout the year. Our traditional out-of-conference midweeks will be great RPI opportunities with outstanding opponents lined up all season long."
Renovations to Riddle-Pace Field are well underway, and the Trojans kick off the season with seven straight home games beginning with Evansville on Feb. 17 for a three-game series. Riddle-Pace Field will now be completely chairback seating, and the awning will fully cover seating down the first and third baselines.
With the new-look Riddle-Pace Field, new seating options are available for fans, including the RBI Club down the first base line. Fans with RBI Club tickets have access to an indoor club area featuring complimentary food and beverage, private restrooms and a cash bar. In addition, RBI Club patrons will also have outdoor seating in sections A, B or C.
Fans can also take advantage of the premium chairback seats in the new field-level area of Riddle-Pace Field, featuring fully cushioned seats for extra comfort.
In-state foe Alabama State comes into town for an early season matchup on February 21, followed by the first-ever meeting between Troy and Stony Brook (Feb. 24-26) to wrap up a seven-game homestead.
The Trojans stay in Alabama and travel north for their first road game of the season as they take on UAB on Feb. 28. The month of March opens with a home series against USC Upstate (March 3-5) and a midweek clash with FGCU (March 7-8).
Troy travels to the sunshine state as they square off with UCF for a three-game weekend series beginning on March 10. To go along with the 30 Sun Belt Conference games this season; the Trojans match up against six teams that made the NCAA regionals last year, with the first being Columbia, who comes to Troy for a midweek (March 14) for the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
"The Sun Belt has become, without a shadow of a doubt, a top four league in the country with the additions made this summer," Meade said. "Our team is going to have to bring it for 30 games because there are no freebies in this league."
The Sun Belt Conference slate begins in Atlanta as Troy travels to take on Georgia State (March 17-19) before hosting FAMU on March 22. The ULM Warhawks will be the first Sun Belt team to come to Riddle-Pace Field in 2023 (March 24-26).
The annual battle with Alabama State at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery takes place on March 28. Then, the Trojans stay on the road and travel to Tallahassee for a rematch with FAMU on March 29 before welcoming one of the Sun Belt's newest members and a regional host last season, Southern Miss, to close out March and head into April.
The month of April opens with four straight road games beginning on April 4 at Alabama, followed by a trip to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas State (April 6-8). After seeing a thrilling ninth-inning comeback last season at Samford, Troy welcomes the Bulldogs for a midweek game on March 11. The Trojans saw their first-ever sweep over Louisiana last season at home, and this year Troy will travel to Lafayette for another pivotal weekend series (April 14-16).
In total, the Trojans will play six different teams from the state of Alabama, and three come in April, with the first of two meetings against Jacksonville State on April 18 and the second on May 2. Last season's regular season Sun Belt champions, Texas State, make a trip to Troy (21-23) before Troy heads out on a four-game in-state road trip starting in Auburn on April 25 and then a weekend series down in Mobile (April 28-30).
The season's final month sees Georgia Southern come into town (May 5-7), followed by a rematch with the Crimson Tide at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery on May 9. The final two weekends of the regular season will be against Sun Belt opponents as the Trojans make the trip to Marshall (May 12-14) and end the season with Appalachian State for the second consecutive year from Riddle-Pace Field.
The Sun Belt Tournament will again be held at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery from May 23-28 as the Trojans look to build off a semifinals appearance in last year's event.
Trojan fans didn't want to miss a minute of the action as Troy averaged 1,948 fans per game, seeing seven of the top 20 crowds in program history and ranking 34th nationally in attendance.
