Trojans Primed for Sun Belt Opener at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After a brief Christmas break, the Troy men's basketball team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to open conference play against its newest Sun Belt opponent, Southern Miss.
For the Trojans (8-5) to win, they need to succeed in the Reed Green Coliseum at 7 p.m. for the first time in program history – Troy is 0-9 on the road against the Golden Eagles.
Troy looks to start 1-0 in Sun Belt play for the fourth consecutive year and open its title run despite being ranked 10th in the Preseason Polls with 76 votes.

The Trojans fell for the second time in program history at home to Mercer, 82-79, to close out non-conference play.
Jackson Fields pushed the Troy deficit to one point, 53-52, banging in a triple off the assist from Zay Williams with 14:00 left.
The following five minutes saw Jalyn McCreary lead the Bears on an 11-2 run after scoring six straight points to extend the lead to double digits, 64-54, with 8:55 remaining.
A 7-1 run to end the game in the final 0:21 brought the game to its final score of 82-79 after Darius McNeill made the fastbreak layup as time expired.
