TROY, Ala. – In the final game of a three-game homestand for the Troy women's basketball team, the Trojans took down NCAA DIII opponent LaGrange College 114-49 in a Wednesday afternoon affair at Trojan Arena.
The Trojans bring their record back to .500 on the year and now stand at 5-5 through the first 10 games of the season. LaGrange, meanwhile, falls to 5-4 on the season after the loss to Troy.
The Trojans received scoring from up and down the lineup, but Troy was led by Jamila Nansikombi-Gunter and Janeen Camp, who both tallied 15 points. Tai'Sheka Porchia, Nia Daniel, Ja'Mia Hollings, and Jashanti Simmons each added at least 10 points.
Camp was two blocks away from a triple-double as she added eight blocks and 15 rebounds to her team-leading 15 points against LaGrange. Hollings also added a double-double after recording 13 rebounds.
The Trojans never trailed in the game against the Panthers as they took it to LaGrange from the opening tip. Troy was up 10-0 before LaGrange scored its first points of the contest, and they held the Panthers to just eight points in the first quarter. Troy led 40-8 after 10 minutes of play.
Troy was able to keep the foot on the gas in the second quarter, outscoring LaGrange 23-14 in the second period. The Panthers did not get on the board until the 6:03 mark of the second, but points up and down the lineup from Troy saw them lead 63-22 at halftime.
Porchia extended the Trojan lead to 47 early in the third quarter, and it was part of a long run of offense from Troy. The scoring in the third quarter ended with eight seconds to go in the period when Camp connected on a layup in the paint to stretch the lead to 55.
The lead grew to 62 four and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, but three minutes would go by without a basket from either team. A pair of free throws from Nansikombi-Gunter and a 3-pointer from Daniel ended the drought, leading to a 114-49 win for the Trojans.
Troy will conclude non-conference action in its next contest as they will hit the road to face Belmont in Nashville on Tuesday, December 20. The action against the Bruins is set to begin at 1 p.m.
