TROY, Ala. – Troy men's golf head coach Forrest Schultz announced Friday the addition of Lee Poppell to the Trojans' signing class; the native of Tallahassee, Fla., will join the Trojans in the fall of 2023.
"I am excited to add Lee to the roster next fall," Schultz said. "Lee has a great head on his shoulders and will be a great fit with our guys. He is a proven winner on the course, and I feel like he is only scratching the surface of his full potential. I'm looking forward to watching him compete over the summer leading into the fall, and I know he will come in ready to play."
Poppell, who attends Maclay School, took home a second place finish at the 2022 Florida Junior Tour Championship and tied for 34th at the 2022 Florida Amateur Championship.
He fired a 7-under 65 at the 2022 Big Bend Championship to win by six strokes, one of two major area tournaments in the Florida Panhandle, featuring more than 70 individuals. Additionally, Poppell fired a 2-under 70 to win the district title later that spring.
Poppell picked up a pair of individual titles on the Southeast Junior Golf Tour during the 2021 circuit, winning at Wynlakes and Sea Palms in addition to a fourth place finish at the Ben An Junior Championship.
Poppell joins Pablo Perez Gracia from Spain in Troy's early signing class for the 2023 season.
