TROY, Ala. – Coming off one of the top recruiting classes in the nation last year, the Troy men's tennis team continued its trend of adding top talent as head coach Rolando Vargas announced Thursday the addition of the No. 2 ranked junior in Mexico, Luciano Alcocer Signoret.
Currently ranked No. 224 in the latest ITF Junior Ranking, Alcocer Signoret has reached as high as No. 191 in the world rankings. He has a 76 percent win rate at the junior level winning 32 of his 42 matches, including four singles tournaments victories in 2022 and one in 2021. Additionally, the native of Queretaro, Mexico, has five doubles tournament victories on the junior circuit.
"I'm really looking forward to Luciano joining our program and becoming part of our family," Vargas said. "He's one of the top junior players in Mexico and has had really good results on the ITF Tour. Luciano is from the same city where I'm from and comes from a great family. He's a hard worker, very discipline and a super nice young man. I'm looking to develop and guide him in the right direction so he can keep improving our tennis. He will fit into our culture and help make our lineup deeper."
Alcocer Signoret is currently playing in the World Cup of Guadalajara, where he defeated an opponent who had a career-best ranking of No. 79 in the opening round, while in doubles, he knocked off the No. 1 seed in the event against two players who had career-high rankings in the top 30 and then followed with a win of a Belgian duo to advance to the quarterfinals.
