Carlton Martial Repeats as Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Carlton Martial's pursuit of NCAA football history took a step in the right direction this past Saturday as he recorded 12 tackles and an interception in Troy's victory at Western Kentucky. For his efforts, Martial was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.
Martial now needs just 59 tackles to become the all-time leader at the FBS level in NCAA history, and he enters the weekend ranked 10th all-time in the category. Following his sixth career interception, Martial is the only player at the FBS level since at least 2001 to have at least 405 tackles, six interceptions and 41 tackles for loss in his career.
In addition to his 12 tackles and interception against the Hilltoppers, Martial added a half tackle for loss and a pass break up in the win against one of the favorites to win C-USA. The Martial-led defense held WKU to just 27 points snapping the nation's longest active streak of 30-point games at 18 games; the scoring output was 20.5 points below WKU's season output.
Troy returns home this weekend to play host to Southern Miss in the first-ever Sun Belt matchup between the two schools. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at The Vet.
