TROY, Ala. – After almost a month-long hiatus on the schedule, the Troy University women's golf team will return to action on Monday when they travel to Jupiter, Florida, to take part in the Jupiter Women's Invitational.
The Jupiter Women's Invitational will span two days. As a result, 36 holes will be played on the first day of the tournament on Monday before the Invitational wraps up on Tuesday with a traditional 18 holes. For hosts Florida Atlantic University, it will be the first of three tournaments the Owls will host this season.
"We are very excited to finally be back on the road," said head coach Randy Keck. "We have had a great couple of weeks of practice and cleaned up some things that needed work after the first tournament. We have a very strong lineup going this week and expect to have a chance to win come Tuesday afternoon."
Women's golf started the season in early September with a trip to the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama. It marked the second-consecutive year at the event hosted by Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama.
During the 2022 edition of the USA Intercollegiate, the Trojans finished 11th out of 13 teams in the tournament. The Trojans utilized a young lineup in the season-opening tournament as three freshmen got the call to start in Mobile.
Laura Fangmeyer finished her first collegiate tournament with a 71 on Saturday and shot under par for the first time in her career. The freshman had birdies on the seventh and ninth holes after netting a bogey on the third hole. Fangmeyer was the highest finisher for Troy as she landed tied for 16th overall.
Jillian Friyia was the second-best player for Troy through two rounds of the tournament but would stumble in the third round. She would shoot one over par on the final day and netted a score of plus five overall to finish 37th among players in the field.
