TROY, Ala. – For the second week in a row, a Trojan has been awarded a conference honor, with Amara Anderson taking home the Sun Belt Setter of the Week award, the league announced on Tuesday.
"Amara has put together a nice run of matches the last few weeks," head coach Josh Lauer said. "This past weekend, she was excellent offensively, defensively, and from the service line. Well-deserved for her and a testament to how well our attackers played this weekend.
For Anderson, this is the first weekly honor this season, and the ninth time overall she earned the accolade, as she won it twice last season, once in 2020 and five times in 2019.
Anderson recorded a conference-high of 12.86 assists per set in the Trojan's weekend sweep of Arkansas State. Her 90 total assists were the second most by a Sun Belt player, with game one against the Red Wolves seeing her put up over 50 assists for the fourth time this season, finishing with 53, which were the most by any player over the weekend.
Along with her assists, the Alpharetta, Ga. native put up a solid defensive performance seeing back-to-back double-doubles with 16 digs in game one and 12 digs in game two. Anderson now has seven double-doubles on the season, the second most on the team.
Putting up big numbers is nothing new for Anderson. Earlier this season, she became the all-time career assists leader in Troy program history and is the only Trojan to surpass 5000 career assists. Totaling 775 assists thus far, Anderson ranks 22 in the nation and 50th in assists per set.
Anderson will be looking to help lead Troy to their sixth and seventh straight win this weekend as the Trojans host ULM from Trojan Arena.
