JONESBORO, Ark. – Senior member of the Troy University golf team ShaeLee Scarberry sits tied for first place overall after a record-breaking day on the course to open the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Scarberry broke the program record for a score in a single round after shooting a 64 in round two. The Trojans as a team sit in eighth place after 36 holes on day one.
Scarberry aided the Trojans' effort to climb the leaderboards after the first round saw Troy in 10th place after the first 18 holes. The senior was able to eagle the first hole in round two and proceeded to birdie six holes to finish eight under par in the second set of 18 holes on Monday to set the program record.
Katelynn Altese led the way for the Trojans in the first round of action and had a solid day on the course. The newcomer was tied for 10th after shooting a 71 and followed the performance in round one with a three-over effort in round two. Still, after two rounds, Altese kept troy in the hunt, and she finished two rounds tied for 30th.
After a stellar performance in her first official outing of the year last week, Bruna Roqueta was solid again for Troy. The returner would shoot the second-lowest score on the team in round two with a trio of birdies. Roqueta rebounded after shooting a score close to 80 in round one and sits tied for 61st overall.
Jillian Friyia shot an identical 152 with Roqueta but did it reversely. Friyia came out on fire to begin the tournament, shooting a 72 to join Altese and Scarberry at the top of the Troy leaderboard. However, the freshman would stumble in the day's second round, shooting an 80 to finish her day.
Laura Fangmeyer has been sensational for Troy this season but struggled through her first 18 holes on Monday. The rookie registered a score of 80 through her first round of action but would rebound with an impressive score of 74 to close out her day.
