Troy Sweeps Men’s Tennis Doubleheader at AUM

TROY, Ala. – Troy wrapped up its five-game road trip to open the spring season by sweeping a doubleheader at AUM on Wednesday. The Trojans won the opening match by a 5-0 margin and took the nightcap 6-1 in the non-conference men's tennis action at the AUM Tennis Complex.
Troy (3-2) won the doubles point in both matches thanks to a pair of wins by the duos of Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin and Carles Anton and Pelayo Antuna. The Warhawks entered the match as the No. 17 ranked team at the NCAA Division II level, while their No. 1 doubles team ranked seventh nationally.
Vito Llinares won both his matches on court six to improve to 4-0 during the spring season and 7-3 overall, and Simkin won both his singles matches – one on court four and one on court five – to push his spring record to 3-2. Manuel Bernard won on court four, Noah Martens won on court three and Antuna won on court one in the afternoon session to clinch the match for the Trojans.
In the opening match, Tasker made quick work, 6-2, 6-1, on court five in the first match, while Anton won in three sets on court one – courts two and three went unfinished.
Troy opens the home portion of its schedule next Tuesday, Jan. 25, when it plays host to West Alabama at the Lunsford Tennis Center; first serve is set for 2 p.m.
