TROY, Ala. – Following a Thursday night loss to Louisiana, the Troy Women's Basketball team toppled ULM, 89-57, Saturday in Trojan Arena.
Troy (13-6, 4-1 Sun Belt) extends its home win streak to 15 consecutive contests, dating back to the 2020-21 season. The Trojans are a perfect 8-0 inside the friendly confines this season.
Troy finished the game with five players in double figures, led by 13 points from both Sharonica Hartsfield and Tina Stephens.
For the Warhawks (4-15, 0-5 Sun Belt), Kyren Whittington led all scorers with a game-high 17 points.
How It Happened
After a slow-moving opening four minutes of the contest, Jhileiya Dunlap kickstarted an 8-0 run, with a pair of makes from the charity stripe, stretching until the 4:25 mark. ULM strung together a 6-0 run of their own, but the Trojans closed the quarter out scoring nine of the final 13 points.
With a seven-point lead, 20-13, at the end of the first, Troy dominated the second quarter, quickly expanding its lead to 11 with back-to-back makes from Dunlap. Janiah Sandifer gave the Trojans their first 20-point lead of the game, 42-22, with a made triple to end the half.
After opening the third quarter on a 4-0 run, the Trojans continued to balloon the already impressive 24-point lead to as many as 36. With 5:36 to play, Hartsfield drained back-to-back triples to give Troy its first 30-plus point lead of the matchup. A Brianna Harris layup gave the Trojans their 36-point advantage with 29 seconds to play, but a Warhawk free throw set up the 69-34 Trojan lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
After ULM opened the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run, Troy's long-range shots started to fall as Tiyah Johnson and Sandifer both drained a three-pointer during the five-minute mark. Gabbi Cartagena had the final say for the Trojans, knocking down a triple with just 10 second to play to solidify Troy's eighth straight win over ULM.
Quotable – Head Coach Chanda Rigby
"We are thankful to get this win in Trojan Arena today. We had a great crowd here, and we are thankful for it. Ever since we started conference play, we haven't had a full squad. We have missed two starters in every game. I like the way the team is starting to get the flow of things and learning to step up."
