Anderson, Brooks Earn Sun Belt Weekly Honors

TROY, Ala. – Amara Anderson and Julia Brooks earned Sun Belt Player of the week honors, the league announced Tuesday. Anderson was named setter of the week, while Brooks was tabbed offensive player of the week after their performances over the weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
This marks Anderson's 11th conference award of her career, adding to her record for most in school history. In addition, this is Brooks' first offensive player of the week award and first award since her freshman season, where she was recognized as freshman of the week twice.
"Julia was terrific this past weekend," head coach Josh Lauer said. "She was efficient and was so consistent. She was the catalyst of our offense, and I'm glad she was recognized by the other coaches this week. Amara worked hard last week to be more consistent with her tempo, and her decision-making improved much from the previous week. I was also really proud of her competitive composure throughout the weekend."
Amara Anderson:
Amara Anderson was named the setter of the tournament, ending the weekend with 147 assists over three matches, averaging 11.3 assists per set, the most of any player. Her 56 assists in the five-set match against Buffalo rank eighth all-time in Troy history.
The Alpharetta, Ga., native leads the Sun Belt Conference with 211 assists and ranks 12th nationally with more than 11 assists per set.
Julia Brooks:
Julia Brooks led the Trojans in all three offensive categories over the weekend. In 13 sets played, Brooks totaled 48 kills, recorded 51.5 points, and charted a hitting percentage of .419. In Troy's first win against Alabama since 1974 and it's first against an SEC team in 25 years, Brooks led all scorers with 18.5 points and 16 kills on a hitting percentage of .424, and finished the match with a service ace to secure the Trojans' victory.
The St. Louis, Mo., native also led the Trojans in kills in matches against Southern Miss (14) and Buffalo (18). Brooks currently sits in third in the Sun Belt Conference with a .408 hitting percentage, and her 3.47 kills per set are good enough for fifth in the conference.
