Women’s Golf Finishes Eighth in Season Opener

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team finished in eighth place in the season-opening USA Intercollegiate, which wrapped play Monday at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course.

A pair of Trojans saved their best for last, with Elizabeth Caldarelli and Bruna Roqueta shooting their best rounds of the weekend in Monday's third round. Caldareli shot 1-under on the day to climb into a tie for 40^th overall at 6-over par. After opening her round with nine straight pars and then a bogey on No. 10, Caldarelli birdied three of her next five holes before closing the day with a bogey.

Roqueta closed out the weekend tied for 55^th place at 9-over par after shooting even-par on Monday. The Trojan newcomer made the turn at 1-under par thanks to a trio of birdies on the front of the course. She added one more on the par-4 12^th around a pair of bogeys on the back nine.

ShaeLee Scarberry led Troy in the event as she tied for 29^th place at 4-over par after shooting a 76 in the final round. Elisabeth Preus tied Caldarelli for 40^th place after carding a 2-over 74 in Monday's round, while Anna Claire Little tied for 46^thplace at 7-over for the weekend. Playing as an individual, Alyssa Mercado tied for 59^th place following a final round 4-over.

Sam Houston State ran away with the team title posting a 19-shot victory over South Florida. Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State and South Alabama rounded out the top five.

Troy returns to action Sept. 20-21 at the Hoover Classic hosted by UAB at the Hoover Country Club.
