TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team returns to the course this weekend when they take part in the Hoover Invite hosted by UAB. The tournament has been moved to the Heatherwood Golf Club due to flooding at the Hoover Country Club.
Troy is coming off an eighth-place finish in its season-opening effort at the USA Intercollegiate. The Trojans averaged 6.33 strtokes vs. par to open the season, led by ShaeLee Scarberry's 4-over 220 performance, which included a 1-under 71 in the opening round.
"I appreciated the steadiness of the first tournament," head coach Randy Keck said. "We played steady golf. There were not a lot of big numbers from our lineup, but we could never step on the gas pedal and finish off enough birdies to win. I was proud of the way they played, and we've had a good week of practice since then."
Joining Scarberry in the lineup this week will be Elisabeth Preus and Elizabeth Caldarelli, who tied for 40th place in the opener at 6-over. Caldarelli fired a 1-under 71 in her final round, while Preus shot even-par and 2-over in two of her three rounds.
Anna Claire Little finished just a shot behind that pair at 7-over in the opener, and she will be back in the lineup this week, while Alyssa Mercado will make her debut in the starting five after playing as an individual in Mobile.
The Field
UAB, Belmont, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville State, Jacksonville, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Troy, ULM, Alabama (Ind.) and Tulane (Ind.)
