TROY, Ala. – Troy is set to kick off its 2021 campaign when it hosts the Troy invitational with their very first matchup in school history against Ole Miss on Friday, August 27 at 6.pm, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham on Sunday, August 29 at 2 p.m. It will be the first time Troy begins their season with non-conference play in two years, as the 2020 season was conference only due to the Coivd-19 pandemic.
"We are looking forward to an exciting opening weekend in Trojan Arena," head coach Josh Lauer said. "The goal of our non-conference schedule this year is to challenge us as a team. Our team has been working hard this week on our offensive tempo and consistency in our service and pass game. We can't wait to be back in front of the Troy Volleyball family in Trojan Arena and start our 2021 journey."
It's been five years since Troy welcomed an SEC opponent to the friendly confines of Trojan Arena when Tennessee visited in 2016. The Trojan's last win against an SEC foe came at Mississippi State in 1996, winning in five sets. In 1995 the Trojans defeated those same bulldogs for their first home win over an SEC school.
"Ole Miss is very well-coached, and they have a lot of excellent players," Lauer said. "Having the opportunity to play a team of their caliber at home is an enjoyable way to begin our season. Add to that the instate rivalry match with UAB on Sunday, and you have a fantastic opening weekend of volleyball here at Troy."

The Rebels return 10 players and have nine newcomers in their squad, including All-Big 12 graduate transfer setter Kylee McLaughlin and Under Armour All-American Honorable Mention freshman outside hitter Julia Dyess.
UAB comes off an 8-8 season, finishing 7-5 in conference play, good enough for third in the West Division of Conference-USA. With the first meeting between these two squads in 1993 and the last in 2018, the Trojans hold a 3-18 record against the Blazers. Troy's previous win against UAB came in 2017 in five sets.
