Carles Anton and Men's Tennis ranked in Final ITA Region Rankings

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team was ranked eighth in the ITA Southern Region Rankings while Carles Anton came in at No. 20 in the singles rankings, the ITA announced on Wednesday.

The Trojans were one of the top teams in the Sun Belt during the 2021 campaign, finishing with the best record in the conference at 20-4. Troy's 20 wins marked the first time that the Trojans had reached that milestone since the 2015 season. Led by third-year head coach Rolando Vargas, Troy has improved each year under his direction, leading the team to a 48-16 record, including an impressive come-from-behind victory over UTA in the 2021 Sun Belt quarterfinals.

Carles Anton, a native of Valencia, Spain, earned an ITA Southern Region singles ranking of 20 after going 16-3 this past season. In his two seasons with the Trojans, Anton has compiled an impressive 35-6 overall singles record and a 30-4 record in dual matches. Following the conclusion of the season Anton became the third Trojan to be named the conference freshman of the year in program history. During the 2019-20 season he led the Sun Belt in win winning percentage (.864) and earned the second-most singles victories while going 8-0 at No. 3 singles to post the best mark in the conference. This past season, Anton's 16 singles wins were tied for the second-most in the conference while his eight wins on court two were also tied for the second-most. When he teamed up in with Antuna for doubles, the pair was a perfect 7-0, the best mark in the Sun Belt at the No. 2 position.
