TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball squad and head coach Scott Cross will add Eastern Florida State guard Christyon "Spudd" Eugene, the team announced Thursday.
Â
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Christyon 'Spudd' Eugene," head coach Scott Cross said. "Spudd is a high-level player that can play multiple positions. He is a three-level scorer, a great defender and a high-level passer. He comes from one of the best junior college programs in the country, Eastern Florida State College. That is also where Nick Stampley played. We love that Spudd comes from a winning program, and we know he has been coached very well by Coach Jeremy Shulman. I know Spudd has an extremely high ceiling and will instantly make us better!"
Â
Eugene joins the Trojans after one season with the Titans, where he averaged 11.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.
Â
The guard was tabbed a member of the All-Central First Team after averaging 11.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Eugene shot over 40-percent from the field in conference and over 41-percent on the year.
Â
The Spring, Texas native led the Titans with 29 steals alongside 71 assists.
Â
Eugene recorded a career-high 21 points against the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota back on January 23rd. In the contest, the guard drained five triples, ultimately going 8-for-13 from the field. Eugene recorded 14 rebounds to earn his first double-double last season.
Â
"Troy is getting an absolute heck of a player in Christyon Eugene," Eastern Florida State head coach Jeremy Shulman said. "'Spudd' is an extremely talented guard that can just flat out score, but also stuffs the stat sheet as a high-level rebounder and creates opportunities for others. Coach Cross and Coach Worley were incredible in this process. Troy got power-five level talent in Spudd and that should really excite the Troy fans!"
Â
Prior to his time at Eastern Florida State, Eugene spent a season at Angelina College, where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.1 rebounds over 12.7 minutes per game.
Â
As a freshman, he shot 42-percent from the field, including almost 40-percent from behind the arc.
Â
Against Victoria College, Eugene boasted a season-high 17 points with seven rebounds, four assist and a block.
In high school, the Texan was dubbed a member of the first-team all-district, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) all-regional team and listed as a top-50 player from the state of Texas.
Â
Eugene joins Cody Dean, TK Smith, Efe Odigie and Rifen Miguel as the fifth member of the 2021 signing class.
