Trojans Poised For Series at No. 20 Florida State

TROY, Ala. – Troy travels to Tallahassee for a matchup against one of the most storied programs in college baseball, the No. 20 Florida State Seminoles. First pitch in the three-game series is set for 5 p.m. (CT) from Dick Howser Stadium.

Troy enters the weekend matchup against the Seminoles having won four straight games, tied for its longest win streak of the season. Over that stretch, the Trojans have seen much-needed balance in the lineup.
The 7-8-9 hole hitters have combined to average .472 over the stretch with a .524 on base percentage, six RBIs and 12 runs. Donovan Whibbs has led that charge from the nine-hole going, 8-for-12 over his last three games.
Dalton Sinquefield has held firm in the middle of the order with six multi-hit performances and 10 RBIs over the last 10 games. Drew Frederic, now Troy's all-time hits leader, and Logan Cerny, whose 13 home runs on the season are tied for the most in the Sun Belt, have been strong at the top of the order.
Garrett Gainous has taken kindly to his new role as the Friday night starter. In his two series-opening starts, the freshman has allowed just five hits and tossed back-to-back scoreless outings against Georgia State and App State. Gainous enters the weekend series on a 16.1 inning scoreless streak.
Orlando Ortiz and Bay Witcher will start for the Trojans on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Ortiz ranks fifth in the Sun Belt with 60 strikeouts this season while Witcher has been one of Troy's most consistent arms and is coming off a performance in which he allowed just two runs in six innings against App State.
