Johnson Breaks Record as Trojans Win Fourth Straight

TROY, Ala. – Five Trojan arms combined for Troy's second shutout in the last four games, and the fourth this season, on a beautiful Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field. Logan Cerny struck a two-RBI double to right field to score the only two runs of the game in the eighth inning and give Troy the 2-0 win over Jacksonville State.

Lance Johnson made his 111^th career appearance on the mound for the Trojans, passing Marc Skinner (2014-17) for first place on Troy's all-time list. Johnson struck out two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 sixth inning.

Kyle Gamble tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out three before giving way to Ryan Fultz, who got the Trojans out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout. Fultz finished with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings while Ryan Pettys retired three of the four batters he faced in the seventh.

Marquez Oates (3-1) was the pitcher of record for the Trojans after tallying three strikeouts in 2.0 innings to close the game. Oates moves to 6-1 on his career to go along with three saves despite pitching only 32.1 innings.

Clay Stearns walked and Donovan Whibbs singled, then advanced to second on a wild pitch, to place two runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth. Cerny then flared a double just out of reach of the Gamecock right fielder to cross the game-winning runs.

Drew Frederic (2-for-4), Cerny (2-for-4) and Dalton Sinquefield (2-for-3) each recorded multi-hit games as the Trojans scattered eight hits in the contest.

Troy improved to 20-19 on the year while Jacksonville State dropped to 19-21. The Trojans and Gamecocks each won their home game to split the season series, 1-1.

It was a great midweek game; our pitching was phenomenal. We defended well when we had to and then we had a great eighth inning of competition when their best guy was on the mound. It was a good, solid 2-0 win."

Lance has been in more games than any pitcher in school history and has been a key contributor from the bullpen throughout his career. He's a valuable piece in the bullpen and I'm really happy he could set the record here at home, on our mound. It was a great night for him."

Lance Johnson became Troy's all-time appearances leader after entering the ballgame in the sixth inning, passing Marc Skinner (2014-17) for first with 111 all-time appearances.
Drew Frederic logged his 18^th multi-hit game of the season and the 76^th of his career. With a double in the third inning, the 53^rd of his career, Frederic pulled even with Rigsby Mosley for fourth place on Troy's all-time doubles list.
Dalton Sinquefield recorded his sixth multi-hit game in the last 10 contests.
Logan Cerny registered the 23^rd game of his career with at least two RBIs. The center fielder now has 54 career extra base hits.
Troy now has four shutouts this season, two of which have come in the last four games.
