DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Nicole Lorup shot even par to lead Troy in Sunday's opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship at the LPGA International Hills Course. The Trojans are in sixth place in the 11-team field with 36 holes to play.
Lorup had a pretty uneventful day with 16 pars on the 6,193-yard, par-72 course. She made the turn in the red after a birdie on the par-5 second before coming back even with a bogey on No. 11. Lorup closed out her day with six straight pars and is tied for ninth place overall, just three shots behind the leaders.
Texas State came out hot and shot 9-under as a team to hold a 5-shot lead over Coastal Carolina. Georgia Southern is nine shots ahead of the Troy in third.
ShaeLee Scarberry is just a shot back of Lorup in a tie for 12th place at 1-over. She also birdied No. 2 but followed with a pair of bogeys before the turn and then ended with 12 straight pars. Anna Claire Little is tied for 33rd place at 5-over after carding a pair of birdies, while Elisabeth Preus is tied for 39th place at 7-over. Elizabeth Caldarelli tied Little with a team-high two birdies and is tied for 49th place at 9-over.
Troy will once again be in the first group off No. 1 this time paired with South Alabama and Arkansas State; the first threesome is scheduled to tee off at 7 a.m. (CT).
