TROY, Ala. – Logan Cerny has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Tuesday. The center fielder has received three of the six weekly honors the conference has awarded this season.
Cerny continued his hot-hitting ways in Troy's 3-1 week against Alabama State and UCF. The sophomore averaged .467, homered three times, doubled twice, scored eight times, batted in seven runs and stole two bases in four games for the Trojans. Cerny logged three multi-hit games, slugged 1.200 on the week and moved himself into third nationally on the home runs list (10).
Against Alabama State, Cerny opened with back-to-back home runs for the second consecutive game as part of a four-RBI outing. In the series-opener against UCF, Cerny homered in his first at-bat for the third-straight game to go along with a double and two runs. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native doubled and scored three runs in Troy's series-clinching win over the Knights Sunday afternoon.
Cerny has been on a tear since sliding into the two-hole in the lineup six games ago, logging a .545 AVG, two doubles, a triple, five home runs, 11 RBIs, 12 runs and a 1.409 slugging percentage over the stretch.
Troy returns to action with a road series at South Alabama beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
