Johnson Tabbed Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Ala. – For the second time this season, Leanna Johnson has been tabbed the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Johnson (12-3) earned a pair of victories over Georgia State this weekend. The sophomore earned the 17th shutout of her career Friday. Johnson scattered three hits, recording her ninth contest this season where she allowed three or fewer hits.

The Brantley, Ala. native's dominance in the circle continued into Sunday where she fanned eight Panthers en route to her 12th victory of the season. Johnson scattered four hits and a walk to down Georgia State in the series finale.

On the weekend, Johnson allowed just one earned run, good for a 0.58 ERA, and pinned opponents to a .167 batting average with 13 strikeouts.

The sophomore currently ranks third nationally in strikeouts (157) and victories (12). Johnson also leads the Sun Belt in ERA (1.33), strikeouts and victories.

Johnson and the Trojans will take a break from conference play next weekend and travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to participate in the Lady Vol Challenge. Troy's first game of the weekend will kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday against Furman followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with host Tennessee.
