Troy Men’s Basketball Falls to Florida

Gainesville, Fla. – Troy Men's Basketball fell to the Florida Gators 84–45 in their second-ever meeting on Sunday afternoon from Exactech Arena at The Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Troy (4-3) was led by Duke Deen, the Trojan's only double-digit scorer finishing with 10 points. This was Deen's fourth game as the Trojan's top scorer, and he was responsible for the Trojan's only two threes in the game. As a team, the Trojans shot 32 percent from the field with 21 turnovers.
Florida (6-0) had six players in double figures, with Tyree Appleby and Myreon Jones finishing with 12 points each. In addition, the Gators had 32 points from those 21 Trojan turnovers.
Trojans got down early to an 11-0 lead as Florida started 4-5 from the field. The Trojans didn't see their first points until 15:45 when Khalyl Waters drove the lane and got a lay-up for the first two points for Troy.
Things got a bit chippy between the two sides as Desmond Williams and Appleby were charged with technical fouls after a hard foul by Williams was met with a response by Appleby and the Florida bench; officials had to separate the two sides and review the play.
Florida shot nearly 44 percent from the field and didn't allow the Trojans to find their footing in the game. However, after a 29-point deficit at halftime, the Trojans bounced back and kept things close as the second half finished with only a 10-point differential between the two sides.
Up Next: Troy will return home to Trojan Arena to take on Rust College on Wednesday, December 1, at 7:30. This will be the Trojan's first home game since Troy's triple-overtime win over Jacksonville State on November 16.
