Monroe, LA. – Troy volleyball snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night in a match that only lasted an hour and a half after a sweep of Louisiana-Monroe (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) from the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Troy (12-9, 5-5) was led by Tori Hester, who had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Julia Brooks followed with 10 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. Amara Anderson had 22 assists and is now 19 away from the record in the rally-scoring era. Lacey Jeffcoat led the Trojans in digs with 19.
ULM (5-20, 1-9) were led by Cali Assaley, who had a match-high 18 kills, and Madeline Hogan, who had a match-high 26 digs. The Warhawks only hit .129 on the match with 15 errors. Their three blocks were one short of Troy, who finished with four.
"I was proud of our effort tonight," head coach Josh Lauer said. "We had good focus and energy. I thought we served great, and Lacey was terrific defensively tonight and set a great tone for the whole team."
First Set: An early back and forth first set saw six tie scores and two lead changes. The Trojans were down three early but could climb back and score four straight points capitalizing on ULM errors, and it was all Trojans from there. The Trojans would finish the set with five consecutive points and take the set 25-16.
Second Set: The Trojans would find themselves down once again, but another four-point run started and ended with a Tori Hester kill followed by an Amara Anderson Ace, and a rare kill for Lacey Jeffcoat gave the Trojans the lead for good. More errors from ULM sealed the deal and gave the Trojans a 2-0 set lead.
Third Set: The third set saw the Trojans connect on their highest hitting percentage of the match connecting on .255 of their total attempts. Julia Brooks had half her kills in this set with five, and the Trojans only had one error. Alison Siersma got on the score sheet with a kill to stretch the lead to five, which was enough to stifle the Warhawk comeback as Tori Hester scored two of the last three points, including match point to give the Trojans a victory and a sweep.
Up next: The Trojans stay in the state of Louisiana with a matchup against the Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana on Saturday, October 23rd at 6 pm.
