Anderson Notches Career Mark, Troy Downs Louisiana in Straight Sets

LAFAYETTE, La. – With 31 assists, Amara Anderson became Troy's new assists leader in the rally scoring era as the Trojans cruised to a three-set victory over Louisiana (25-16, 25-19, Saturday at the Earl K. Long Gym.
Coming into the match, Anderson needed just 19 assists to earn the title in the rally scoring era. The junior notched 31 in three sets to etch her name into Troy's record book.
Offensively, the Trojans (13-9, 6-5 Sun Belt) were led by Ashley Guenveur, who hit at .538 en route to nine total kills. Julia Brooks added 13 kills of her own, hitting at .391.
Kelsey Bennett paced Louisiana (11-8, 6-5 Sun Belt) with 10 kills, while Emery Judkins led the squad with a .300 hitting percentage.
"That was a tremendous team win," head coach Josh Lauer said. "Our serving tonight was stellar, and our bench was so good at keeping us energized. We had a good spark tonight, and I was really proud of our composure and focus."
First Set: After falling behind 3-1 in the early points of the opening set, the Trojans rallied to score seven of the following eight points, good for a 7-4 lead. Troy and the Ragin' Cajuns traded points before back-to-back kills by Alison Siersma and Guenveur and a Louisiana attack error gave the Trojans a 15-7 lead at the media timeout. Led by a pair of kills from Brooks, Troy went on to win the opening set 25-16.
Second Set: The Trojans struggled to connect offensively during the beginning of the second set, falling behind by as many as five. Sparked by service ace from Guenveur, Troy rallied from behind to take a two-point advantage at the media timeout and didn't look back. The Trojans capped off the second set win, 25-19, with a kill from Brooks.
Third Set: Troy's second set momentum carried over into the third and final set as the Trojans broke out to an early 10-5 lead. Troy's offensive attack could not be slowed as the Trojans cruised to a 25-12 win in the deciding set.
Next Up: The Trojans return for a pair of matchups inside Trojan Arena. Troy will open the weekend Friday at 6 p.m. against Coastal Carolina before Saturday's 6 p.m. finale against Appalachian State.
