TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball's Alexus Dye was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 14 rebounds per game in Troy's two-game sweep over Georgia Southern this past weekend.
Dye earned her second player of the week honor of the season, third of her career, following an impressive weekend where she recorded back-to-back double-doubles against the Eagles while also posting a season-high 16 rebounds on Sunday. Dye now has eight double-doubles on the season, fourth most in the nation. Dye was one of just three Sun Belt players to record at least one double-double over the weekend.
Dye, who is one of just 18 players to be averaging a double-double in the country, got the weekend started with an impressive 17 points and 12 rebounds while only playing 18 minutes. In the first game of the weekend Dye also had a season-high three assists and a blocked shot. On Saturday Dye scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in 29 minutes while adding two assists and earning a season-high two steals. She shot 73 percent (16-of-22) from the field.
Through 11 games Dye is the Sun Belt leader in points per game (18.2), rebounds per game (10.2) and defensive boards per game (7.8) while being the only player in the conference to be averaging a double-double. Nationally Dye is ranked 13th in defensive rebounds, 20th in total rebounds (118), 22nd in rebounds per game, 21st in field goals made (88) and 37th in field goal percentage (.553).
Dye's second player of the week honor of the season is also Troy's third. Tiyah Johnson was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on Dec. 15. Troy's three honors this season eclipses last year's total and is the fourth most Troy has received in a single-season in program history.
Troy will be back inside Trojan Arena this weekend as they host Coastal Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday at 4 p.m.
