Anderson, Hayes Earn Sun Belt Weekly Honors

TROY, Ala. – Amara Anderson and Cheyenne Hayes each earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday. Anderson was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week while Hayes garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors.
This marks the eighth conference honor of Anderson's career, the most in school history (three players have four). Hayes has now received a Sun Belt weekly honor three times in her career.
A Trojan has earned league recognition 14 times in the last three seasons, the same amount as the previous eight years combined.
"Cheyenne and Amara each had a really good weekend," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I thought Cheyenne and Amara anchored our offense all weekend long and brought tremendous competitive composure to our team. I was very proud of the way our team played this weekend and very appreciative of the conference coaches for recognizing both of their performances."
Amara Anderson
Anderson set a program record with 58 assists in the Friday night contest against Georgia State, the most in a four-set match in school history. The junior totaled 137 assists compared to just one error in 10 sets this weekend against the Panthers, good for a whopping 13.7 average.
The Alpharetta, Ga., native also recorded her first double-double of the season with 35 assists and 11 digs in the Friday morning match against the Panthers. Anderson assisted on 88 percent of the Trojans' kills last weekend while adding six kills on 22 attempts (.273), two aces, and 25 digs.
Cheyenne Hayes
Hayes posted 56 kills on .237 hitting in three wins over Georgia State last weekend, including a 23-kill outing in the Friday night contest. The senior flirted with a double-double in all three matches with seven, eight and seven dig outings for a total of 22 digs on the weekend.
The Newnan, Ga., native led all scorers in all three matches with 15, 23 and 18 kill performances. Hayes also added three aces and two blocks to her impressive weekend.
