TROY, Ala. – Coach Mark Smartt and the Troy baseball program have announced their 2020 summer camp dates at Riddle-Pace Field. The camps will adhere to a number of safety guidelines in order to maintain the safest possible playing environment, including a 50 camper limit for each session.
Two youth camps will be held June 15-18 from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. (ages 6-8) and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (ages 9-12). The father/son camp will be held June 22-24 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and is open to ages 4-12. The All-American Camp will be held June 29-July 1 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and is open to those 8-12 years old.
Future prospect camps will be held for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with hitting/defense sessions taking place Monday nights (June 15, 22, 29) and pitching/catching sessions Tuesday nights (June 16, 23, 30). Future prospect tournaments will also be held at Riddle-Pace Field on June 18-21 and June 25-28.
"Our staff is looking forward to having the opportunity to work with the younger age groups this summer," Smartt said. "COVID-19 has caused many of these players to miss out on baseball this summer and we hope to give some of that back. We look forward to having players back out on Riddle-Pace Field."
Smartt Baseball Camps will take the following steps to ensure the health and safety of all campers:
• There will be a limit of 50 campers for each session in order to maintain proper distancing during the camp.
• All staff & campers will have their temperature checked each morning prior to camp. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 degrees or more will not be allowed to participate.
• Staff will be in masks during the check in and check out process.
• Campers may wear masks but will NOT be required.
• Campers are encouraged to bring their own bat and helmet to avoid sharing of the same equipment.
• Hand sanitizer will be available at Riddle-Pace Field.
• Campers should bring their own water bottle properly labeled with their name. Camp staff will be available to refill bottles.
• Campers will be encouraged to avoid contact with other campers (high fives, horseplay, etc.) and to sneeze or cough into their elbow.
• Areas frequented by campers will be properly cleaned between camp sessions.
• Only staff and campers will be allowed in the dugouts and on the playing surface of Riddle-Pace Field. Parents should maintain social distancing in the bleacher areas. In the event of an emergency, Camp Staff will be available to escort parents/guardians to the appropriate location.
