TROY, Ala. – Troy made a valuable addition to its pitching staff with the addition of left-handed pitcher Ryan Pettys, a transfer from Florida State. Pettys will have four years of eligibility with the Trojans after redshirting the 2020 season with the Seminoles.
A native of Panama City Beach, Fla., Pettys was rated as a top 150 player nationally out of high school, the 15th-best lefty in the nation and the second-best in the state of Florida according to Perfect Game.
The lanky southpaw boasts three pitches he can throw for strikes with a fastball that sits at 89-91 MPH and can top out at 92 MPH. Pettys' best pitch is his big wipeout curveball that pairs with a changeup that comes in around the high 70s.
He graduated from Mosley High School in Lynn Haven, Fla. where he earned All-State honors and helped lead the Dolphins to a Class 6A state semifinal appearance in 2019. Pettys earned All-County and All-District honors all four years of high school.
Quotable – Head Coach Mark Smartt
"Ryan was one of the top lefthanded pitchers in country out of high school a year ago and we are thankful to get him here at Troy. His ceiling is extremely high and look forward to adding him to an already talented class on the mound."
