COLLEGIATE BASEBALL RELEASE
Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy junior pitcher Levi Thomas and sophomore catcher Caleb Bartolero were tabbed Collegiate Baseball All-Americans, the publication announced Tuesday. Thomas, a second-team member, and Bartolero, a third-team selection, became the 57th and 58th All-Americans in program history.
Â
The pair were the only players from the Sun Belt Conference named All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball.
Â
Thomas impressed on a national level in 2020 with a miniscule ERA of 0.39, a top-15 mark in the country. The junior amassed 42 strikeouts in 23.0 innings which rank 10th nationally and his WHIP of 0.65 was the 17th-best in the nation this season.
Â
The Cullman, Ala., native earned back-to-back Sun Belt Pitcher of the week honors to open up the season and was also named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week after beginning the year with seven consecutive strikeouts en route to fanning a career-high 14 batters on Opening Night.
Â
Thomas turned more heads on the national stage when he allowed no runs in 6.0 innings at No. 1 Florida. Thomas didn't give up a run until his fourth start of the year against Michigan State at the Cox Diamond Invitational, an outing where he still struck out 11 batters.
Â
Bartolero showed remarkable consistency at the plate in 2020 after hitting safely in all 17 games of the season, a career-long hitting streak for the sophomore. A .394 hitter on the year, Bartolero recorded 28 hits and nine doubles which rank 12th and sixth in the nation, respectively.
Â
The Woodstock, Ga. native also hit a triple and two home runs, including a grand slam against Northern Kentucky on Opening Weekend. He drove in 18 runs and registered 45 total bases on the season, the 23rd-most in the country.
Â
The publication will announce Freshman All-American selections next week. Troy has had a Freshman All-American named in four of the last six seasons.
