Women's Basketball Lands Three on All-Sun Belt Teams

TROY, Ala. – Three members of the Troy women's basketball team earned All-Sun Belt honors in a vote by league coaches and select media members, Sun Belt Conference officials announced on Monday, March 9. Japonica James was named to the All-Sun Belt first team while Alexus Dye earned second team honors and Jasmine Robinson earned third team honors.

James, a preseason third-team pick, was named to the Sun Belts First Team after leading the Trojans in scoring at 14.6 points per game in league play and averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. James set career-highs as a senior in points with 28 against Texas State on Jan. 23 and rebounds with 12 at South Alabama on Feb. 29. James' 14.6 ppg average against Sun Belt competition ranks as the seventh most ppg while her rebounding numbers ranked 16th. James reached double-digits points in 20 of the teams 29 games including each of the final seven contests. She recorded three double-doubles, second-most on the team and led the Trojans in scoring seven times. To-date, James has scored 373 points, grabbed 165 rebounds earned 45 steals, dished out 26 assists and blocked 10 shots while shooting 56 percent from the field, tops in the Sun Belt, and 60 percent from the free throw line.

Dye, one of the best newcomers in the Sun Belt and the conference player of the week back on Feb. 24, averaged 11.5 points per game in conference play, 20th best average, and 10.3 rebounds per game, the third highest total in Sun Belt games while being just one of only two players in the conference to average a double-double. On the year Dye recorded a team-high nine double-doubles, seven of which came in the final 12 games while grabbing at least 13 rebounds in 10 different games this season. On Feb. 22 against Arkansas State Dye set career marks with 23-points and 19 rebounds. To-date, Dye has scored 293 points, grabbed 278 rebounds, earned 18 steals, dished out 13 assists and blocked 15 shots.

Robinson made one of the biggest production jumps in the conference from her sophomore to junior season. After averaging just 6.5 points per game last year she improved her average to 11.7 ppg while also averaging 2.3 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game. A mainstay in the starting lineup this season with a team-high 28 starts, Robinson recorded career bests in points (25 at Duke), assists (nine vs Texas State) and made three's (five at Coastal Carolina). In conference play she averaged 10.9 ppg, 26th most, and dished out 3.3 assists per game for the ninth best average in conference play. To date, Robinson has scored 340 points, dished out 90 assists, grabbed 66 rebounds, earned 16 steals and blocked two shots.
