PENSACOLA, Fla. – Drew Frederic went a perfect 4-4 at the plate while leading the Trojans to a 5-3 win over Samford Saturday afternoon at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Troy snapped its five-game losing skid behind the arm of Orlando Ortiz who notched his second win of the season.
Frederic, Dalton Sinquefield and Caleb Bartolero all posted multi-hit games for Troy. Two Trojans, Easton Kirk and Dalton Sinquefield, hit a home run against the Bulldogs (11-2) – both over the right-field wall.
Kirk's 346 ft. solo home run opened the game's scoring in the top of the second. Austin Garofalo eventually hit a single up the middle to score Sinquefield from second with two outs in the same inning.
In the third, Frederic got aboard with a single to left then proceeded to use his speed on the base paths to his advantage. The Niceville, Fla. native stole second and then advanced home on two separate wild pitches.
Troy (9-6) took a four-run lead when Sinquefield crushed a no-doubter over the right-field wall, his second home run of the year. The Trojans added an insurance run in the seventh inning when William Sullivan scored Rigsby Mosley from third on a sac fly to left.
Samford made things interesting with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to pull within two, but DJ Wilkinson pitched a scoreless ninth frame to secure the win and his second save of the year.
Jalon long was tagged with the loss for Samford and falls to 0-2 on the year.

"The big takeaway today was that we got a win. I'm not going to over analyze it right now; It was important to get back in the win column. [Drew] Frederic is a really talented player and I'm not surprised at all he responded the way he did. He's too good of a player to not play well for long."
